What exactly is GATE?

GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering - is an exam for Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M.Tech), and direct PhD admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutes/universities throughout India. It also provides access to burgeoning public sector organisations (PSUs) and research. ONGC, NTPC, GAIL, HPCL, PGCIL, BHEL, BSNL, HPCL, NHPC, BARC, DRDO, and others are among the PSUs and research institutions that use GATE scores to fill positions. The GATE Committee, which is made up of academic members from IIS c, Bangalore, administers and conducts the exam in eight zones across the country on behalf of the Entire Coordination Board, Dept of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, and the other seven IITs.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE The candidates listed below are eligible to take the GATE 2023 exam.

  • A candidate who is currently enrolled in any undergraduate degree programme in the third or higher year.
  • The GATE 2023 exam is open to candidates who have completed any government-approved degree programme in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, or the Arts.
  • Candidates who hold certification from one or more professional societies must guarantee that the societies' tests are recognised by the Ministry of Education/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equal to B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Planning, and so on.

  • Candidates who got or are pursuing their qualifying degree in a country other than India include: Must be in their third or higher year of study or have finished a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (time: at least three years).

What's New in GATE 2023

Geometrics Engineering (GE) and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering are two new topics (NM). In GATE 2023, the total number of subjects has increased to 29. Students applying for GATE 2023 can now choose two distinct papers from a pre-determined list of options. GATE-2023 eligibility criteria have been relaxed from a minimum of 10+2+4 (ongoing) to a minimum of 10+2+3 (ongoing), allowing candidates in their third year of undergraduate studies to sit for the exam, giving them an additional opportunity to improve their performance and secure better career options.

The GATE Exam Syllabus 2023 PDF is for a Computer Based Test held by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore in collaboration with the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee.
